No, my problem is that the word “slut” has never felt like mine to reclaim. While women all over the world are waiting for people to stop seeing them as sex objects, women with disabilities are still waiting to be seen at all. We are less than a woman, somehow–certainly less than “slut.” Too often we are viewed as pitiable, pathetic and devoid of desire. We could never be “sluts.” If we are “lucky enough” to have partners, they get congratulations and pats on the back from strangers when they “take us out” in public. People applaud their generosity and selflessness for taking care of us, assuming they get nothing in return (certainly not sex or satisfying intimate connections). People imagine we are loved “in spite of” our disabilities rather than for all the other things we are. We struggle to find doctors who will monitor our pregnancies and help deliver our babies because it’s “dangerous” for us to be mothers. —

First they came for abortion, but I didn’t care because abortion was for sluts. Then they came for sex ed, but I didn’t care because the kids can learn all they need to know at home. My spouse works in phlebotomy.

As part of an ice-breaker while he preps the tourniquet, tubes and needle, he casually asks why his patients are there. Obviously it doesn’t require an answer or anything, because that’d be invasive as hell, but often it helps alleviate patient tension if they start talking about something, and the elephant in the room makes for an easy jumping block. People trust medical workers.

“I’m getting an abortion,” one young woman he saw today said. Not the first, not the last.

But she went on to describe her situation. It wasn’t what she wanted; who knows how it happened—brief lapse of judgment, failure of contraception,tampering with contraception, marital rape, whatever—but the point was, she wasn’t ready. She decided to abort, even though her husband tried to convince her otherwise.

He asked for a divorce.

Now she’s in a race to get the procedure done as fast as possible, because he intends to fight for custody of the unborn child. He wants to legally force her to carry that fetus she doesn’t want to term and then take the resulting baby from her.

When my spouse told me about this, his voice shook.

Seriously, this is happening. It’s happening right now.

Who the fuck does this guy think he is trying to tell his partner what to do withher own uterus, not to mention endure pregnancy and labor against her will. Fuck.

This makes me so incredibly angry.

All of my hatred.

Abortion is murder and takes away the potential life of another human. Being pro choice makes you pro death too because you’re standing up for something that takes life away. In the photo above you can see the blood our society has on it’s hands when we allow this to happen. Abortion is a violent, cruel and selfish act that should be against the law.

No, being “pro-life” makes you pro-death. You know why? When abortion is illegal, the rate of abortion does not change. It simply makes 70,000 pregnant people die per year, not to mention millions of permanent injuries. “Pro-life” also makes you anti-choice.

Pro-choice is the real pro-life.

PS: Most abortions don’t look like that. The vast majority look a little more like a white blob of cells in a bowl.

PPS: Triggering images don’t convince anyone you’re right. It’s just fearmongering.
