I’m looking for anecdotal information about your experiences in the Upper Midwest.

Lots of signs are pointing me up there, and I’m looking for the local touch.

No rose coloured glasses; I’m looking for good and bad, biases, raw facts, you name it.

If you could help out at all in my search, that’d be absolutely fantastic. Thanks!

(Addendum: just putting this out there, but, it seems that Minnesota is “Minnesota Nice”-ing me their way. If only through gigantic hints.)

Would Illinois count?

Taking into consideration there’s a possibility of me attending a grad school in the Chicago area as well, I’d definitely say yes! :>

Dying for a hot dog but don’t know what bun you want it on? Well Bison Jacks gives you a few choices, one of which is referred to as “Dark Squaw” which looks like it’s pumpernickel bread.

For those who don’t know, “squaw” basically means “Native American prostitute”. It’s a disgustingly offensive term that some people still use today (in my high school that’s how white girls started fights with native girls)

You can go on their website and contact them about this nonsense. I wrote to them already.

“What the hell is a Dark Squaw bun? Do you even know the history behind the word? If not, which I’m greatly assuming you don’t, it basically means “Native American prostitute” which is greatly offensive to Native American women. I’m sure there are a thousand other words you could use to describe BREAD without being so offensive.”

I’d put more but I get really mean after awhile. Feel free to contact them and let them know how you feel!
