Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant signed into law on Monday a bill that could shut down the only abortion clinic in the state, hailing it as an important step to “ensure that the lives of the born and unborn are protected in Mississippi.”
House Bill 1390, which passed the state Senate earlier this month, requires all physicians at abortion clinics in Mississippi to be board-certified OB-GYN and to have admitting privileges at a local hospital.
Jackson Women’s Health Organization in Jackson, Miss., is the only abortion facility in the state, and its owner recently told POLITICO that two of its three physicians do not have the now-required admitting rights. Diane Derzis had predicted that once signed into law, H.B. 1390 could force her clinic to close.
…..
Planned Parenthood was quick to condemn the new law. “Make no mistake, this law is based on a political agenda, not medical necessity,” Cecile Richards, the group’s president, said in a statement. “In yet another shortsighted attempt to ban abortion in Mississippi, Governor Bryant and lawmakers are putting their ideology above the health and safety of Mississippi women. This law is bad policy and endangers women’s health.”

A small bomb exploded at Planned Parenthood’s Appleton North Health Center in Wisconsin, according to numerous news reports. The Green Bay Press Gazette reports that a “small, homemade explosive device” was placed on a windowsill of the clinic at around 7:30 p.m. Sunday night, causing damage as well as small fire.
The clinic, one of very few in the the state that provides abortions, has been a constant target of anti-choice activists, from Lila Rose attempted “undercover video ‘stings’” to Pro-Life Wisconsin’s “Empty Manger Christmas carols” and other stunts. With the amount of attention being put on the clinic, and the escalating frenzy to try and block a woman’s right to abortion, it was likely only a matter of time before a violent act happened there.
The incident also points to a disturbing and increasing trend of clinic violence. This would be the fourth case of incendiary devices being used as a weapon against clinics and supporters in the last eight months. Last August, a suspect firebombed a clinic in McKinney, Texas. On New Year’s Day, a clinic in Florida was firebombed in the early morning hours by a homeless man believed to be sympathetic to the anti-choice protesters who frequented the health center. And just last month, a Texas state senatorknown for her Planned Parenthood advocacy had her office in Fort Worth firebombed during working hours while the office was full.
And clinic violence just in the state of Wisconsin itself has become a major issue. Ralph Lang has been in jail since May, still awaiting trial for his alleged attempt to kill a Madison abortion doctor.
Bombing clinics is obviously becoming the favorite activity for anti-choice extremists, and for every thwarted plot like North Carolina’s Justin Moose in 2010, we’re now seeing multiple successes.

A small bomb exploded outside a Planned Parenthood clinic in Grand Chute, Wis., on Sunday night, and police are investigating to learn who planted the device.
According to WGBA-TV, police fire crews found the homemade explosive outside a window sill that they believe had set off a small fire, which burned out before fire crews arrived. The building sustained a small amount of damage.
The incident happened around 7:30 p.m. on Sunday.
Calls to the police department were not answered.
Planned Parenthood has 27 health centers in Wisconsin, and three of them, including the clinic that was bombed, offer abortion services. The fire from the bomb caused minimal damage to one of the exam rooms in the clinic, which is scheduled to reopen on Tuesday, said Teri Huyck, president and CEO of Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin.
“Our primary concern today — as always — is our patients, staff and volunteers,” Huyck said in a statement on Monday. “
WomenPeople deserve safe and compassionate care, and we are proud to provide it. Rest assured, our doors will remain open for the thousands ofwomenpeople who rely on Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin each year for high quality health care.“We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the law enforcement agencies working with us to ensure Planned Parenthood of Wisconsin continues to be a safe and trusted health care provider,” she said.
According to the most recent statistics from the National Abortion Federation, there were 114 violent attacks against abortion providers in 2011, including three physical assaults, one bombing, one incident of arson, 27 counts of vandalism and eight burglaries.
Here is senator Wendy Davis’ front door!
Again, no one was hurt.
Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis is an ardent supporter of Planned Parenthood, and spoke at a rally 10 days ago about her experiences relying on Planned Parenthood for her health care.
Coincidence? I THINK NOT.

Ask the Siri, the new iPhone 4 assistant, where to get an abortion, and, if you happen to be in Washington, D.C., she won’t direct you to the Planned Parenthood on 16th St, NW. Instead, she’ll suggest you pay a visit to the 1st Choice Women’s Health Center, an anti-abortion Crisis Pregnancy Center (CPC) in Landsdowne, Virginia, or Human Life Services, a CPC in York, Pennsylvania. Ask Google the same question, and you’ll get ads for no less than 7 metro-area abortion clinics, 2 CPCs and a nationwide abortion referral service.
Ask in New York City, and Siri will tell you: ‘I didn’t find any abortion clinics.’

make me sick. How can you, Mr. Evans, the director of all the Planned Parenthood’s sit there and say that abortion is least of the services you provide? It sounds morbid, but every time one of those Dr.’s who perform abortions kills a baby, there should be an infant screaming the background. Maybe that would jolt their conscience. Oh no, providing a much needed medical service at an affordable price. Abortions are 3% of the services they provide, this breaks it down further for you: Abortion doesn’t kill babies, in most cases it kills a very undeveloped, unfeeling, unthinking fetus that cannot scream or feel pain. So why should they hear an infant screaming? When that has nothing at all to do with an abortion procedure? Other than maybe that a lot of people who have abortions get them to make sure they are able to provide for the children they already have, and that some people who get abortions want children it’s just not the right time in their life. This is a video that goes a little further into who gets abortions. Those doctors risk life and limb to help those in need. They stand against ridiculous protesters who refuse to open their minds or hearts. That makes me sick. Screaming murderer at someone who has just made such a difficult decision, throwing eggs at someones car, hateful signs and ignorance pretending they give a single shit about the people who are going into the clinic. Setting up fake propaganda ‘clinics’ next door, leading people into them and telling them lies to talk them out of something they already decided on. Know what makes me sick? An 11-year-old giving birth to her stepdad’s babies after he raped her. A 13-year-old who’s so afraid of telling her parents that she tries to self-abort with a pencil. A Brazilian woman being forced to carry a fetus without a brain to term. And of course, the fact that anti-choice laws DO NOT CUT THE ABORTION RATE, and that people rally against Planned Parenthood when it PREVENTS more than 800,000 abortions every year. Maybe play a tape of a woman crying and screaming the next time you try to propagate pro-“life” bullshit. That should jolt your consciousness into remembering that uterus owners are NOT baby machines, and that we have a right to our own bodies.
