A hurricane is predicted to impact the west cost of Florida on the first day of the National Republican Convention. HAW HAW.
OH BOY.
That’s the first week of classes for me!
Ohio And Florida Public Schools Lock Mentally Disabled Children In Closets
Nothing new or surprising here but I always share these pieces when I see them. The people perpetrating these despicable acts aren’t teachers or professionals, they are untrained, sadistic monsters. These stories always make me glad that I am and always have been very involved in my son’s school life, AND I always ask him how his day was and what went on.
I’ve always tried to make him feel comfortable and realize that he’s not “bad” for any way he’s behaved. If he’s “acted out” (which is RARE and hardly constitutes the use of that word), we discuss why it happened and how to control the behavior (e.g. frustration, anxiety) and properly react the next time a similar situation occurs. I’m so glad we have a close enough bond to where he tells me when he’s had a problematic day without fear of repercussions. Parents should always be friends with their children.
If you have a child with any kind of disability, don’t assume that you’re child is being treated well or properly simply because he or she is in a private school or your child doesn’t tell you something is wrong is (sometimes, they can’t communicate this). You must be your child’s voice, they must feel protected by you. ALWAYS check out the school and ask questions, especially what procedures they take if a child is “misbehaving” (ugh) and look at the seclusion areas or rooms they take them too.
It is a sad fact that these scenarios occur a lot more often than most people realize: http://ow.ly/cRUrM
For the record: If I found out that a person (or persons) treated my child this way, I’d follow them home one by one and create a list of said offenders and then conduct some revenge/vigilante justice reminiscent of “Kill Bill” and “Dead Man’s Shoes”.
Please see this 2009 report and share if you’ like to bring more awareness to this matter.
WORDS FAIL TO DESCRIBE MY RAGE.
What’s new on the menu for Florida’s invasive pythons? Bird eggs
Known for terrorizing rangers and local mammal populations, the rogue snakes are now setting their sights on the eggs of native birds.
PLEASE HELP ME SAVE THE MANATEES!
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) has proposed a rule to protect manatees from harassment and high-speed watercraft in Crystal River, Florida, by creating a manatee refuge in Kings Bay. The proposed rule includes an end to a high-speed zone in Kings Bay that is currently allowed during the warmer months of the year. Despite broad support for the rule from more than 100,000 people, a minority of wealthy, influential local citizens are in opposition to this important rule, and a full-scale propaganda campaign has been launched. Sadly, this campaign is supported by the local government and the Chamber of Commerce in an effort to prevent the FWS from implementing this critically-needed and justified rule.
Sixteen manatees have already been killed in Kings Bay, and this is just one more misguided attempt to allow the killing zone to stay in place so a few wealthy people can ski in their back yards.
Now that propaganda campaign has moved to the Florida Legislature. On Tuesday, February 28th, Representative Jimmy Smith’s memorial (HB 611) will be discussed by the house members, asking that the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service NOT adopt the rule for Kings Bay.
This is from where I live, and since its original posting date, has garnered a significant amount of attention from the internet and various political camps. They have cited their own outrage as a breach of civil rights, and I cannot blame them for citing the obvious.
This is in the wake of civil disobedience in the Pensacola area, over the course of weeks and months. The meeting before was being held to discuss a movement to effectively criminalize homelessness in Pensacola, by outlawing the use of materials to shield oneself from the elements. The implication there would ban tents from being set up, of course. It isn’t the first, but a reaction to an earlier outrage. Looks like it sparked another.
I have no words to properly reflect my feelings on the subject matter. I’ll let it speak for itself.

We kicked their asses here in Mississippi and now they’re targeting my home state. Let’s roll out the big guns. They’ve changed the wording, but it’s still horrible—and I refuse to let this pass. Being in Mississippi, I can’t exactly start sticking up posters, but I CAN spread the word.
Let’s shoot this down.
Signal boosting.
I refuse to be a bystander. Especially not now, when this barks at my doorstep.
Rick Scott’s Pee Test Fails a Court Test
Two months ago, the Republican governor of Florida learned that his scheme to drug-test welfare recipients, at their expense, was a blig ol’ flop. This week, he learned it’s probably unconstitutional, too. Read a judge’s blistering highlights here.

Well’p, it was worth a shot. That’ll teach me for having trust in my congressional representative.
Here’s the response I recently received, when contacting him about the controversial legislation. Despite my reasoning, evidence, and logic, I received the following. ________________________ Dear Mr. York, Thank you for contacting me regarding abortion legislation of the 112th Congress. I appreciate knowing your thoughts and concerns on issues that affect northwest Florida and our nation. To put it in the simplest terms—I am pro-life. I believe the life of an unborn child begins at conception, and every time an abortion occurs, a life is lost. Since the ruling of Roe v. Wade in 1973, issues related to abortion have been at the forefront of every Congress—whether it is using taxpayer dollars to fund abortions or the rules intent on regulating who may receive an abortion and how it must be performed. Abortion continues to strike at the moral fiber of this great nation. I was glad to see that one of the first bills introduced during the 112th Congress—H.R. 3—was designated to ensure no taxpayer funding can be used for abortions, and I will do everything I can to ensure that the life of every unborn child is protected. If you would like to receive more information on issues of importance, please visit my website and signup for my constituent newsletter at www.jeffmiller.house.gov.
Sincerely,
Jeff Miller
Member of Congress
